Jennie, one of the members of popular K-pop girl group Black Pink, is confirmed to be working on a solo album. This will be her first venture as a soloist and it is expected to release just before the year is over.
News on the subject gained traction when Korean news outlet Sports DongA released an exclusive report claiming Jennie was working on her solo album debut to be released sometime in November. It also claimed that Jennie just finished up filming of the music video in Europe.
Eventually, YG Entertainment did follow up confirming that Jennie was indeed working on a solo album to be released before the end of the year.
“Jennie is in the final stages of preparation for her first solo promotions aimed to be within the year.”
Since the news of Jennie’s upcoming solo debut is still fairly new, there aren’t any pre-release promotions yet. However on Wednesday, October 18, a Twitter user uploaded a picture on the social media platform claiming it was Jennie on set filming for her music video. From what is shown, she is cruising on a bicycle in an all-black outfit.

Jennie’s solo album debut news comes about four months after Black Pink released their second extended play (EP) or “mini-album” titled Square Up. Its titled track DDU-DU-DDU-DU is their most popular song to date. It debuted at number one on both the Korean Gaon and Hot charts and also debuted in the top 100 for music charts in Canada, China, France, and the United States.
Papa YG says all four members of Black Pink will have solo debuts!
If news of Jennie’s solo debut album is not enough to get K-pop fans especially Blinks (Black Pink’s official fan club) excited, maybe news that the other three members are working on solo albums too will. Right after Jennie’s solo album was confirmed, Yang Hyun Suk took to his official Instagram to keep fans up to date.
For those who don’t understand Hangul, a translation of what Yang Hyun Suk wrote is attached below.
“We are simultaneously working on new Black Pink songs as well as solo projects for all 4 members at the moment. Jennie’s solo will be the first one to be released, followed by Rose’s solo. The biggest strength of BLACKPINK is that each member’s ability/talent as a solo artist is as strong as their teamwork/cohesiveness.”
K-pop fans can look forward to more coming from Black Pink not only as a girl group but as soloists in the future. However, that is only if Yang Hyun Suk keeps his word. He is notorious for saying one thing either it be in person or through social media and either doing something else or not following through.
