Jared Leto didn’t come out of character for six months while filming his role as The Joker for next year’s Suicide Squad.

Will Smith, who plays the character Deadshot in the movie, told DJ Zane Lowe in an interview on Beats 1 Radio that Leto refused to talk to him off-set because he was so focused on staying in character.

He said: “I’ve never actually met Jared Leto, right. So we worked together for six months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’. We’ve never said ‘hello’, we’ve never said ‘good day’.

“I’ve only ever spoken to him as Deadshot and him as The Joker. I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be ‘Hey, Jared. What’s up?’ ‘Will, hey man, nice to meet you!’. Not a single word was exchanged off camera. He was all in on the Joker. I’m looking forward to meeting him.”

Leto is famous for staying in character during filming including for his role as Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club, for which he lost 30lbs.
