Kim’s wedding dress alone was priced at a staggering $2.7million. The pair, seen in the days before the wedding in the video below, also paid for their extensive family to stay in a $8,500-a-night hotel in Paris in the lead-up to the big day.
To top it off, they also shelled out to fly them and 200 guests to Florence in Italy where the couple tied the knot at the city’s Belvedere Fort.
Among the A-list guests were Hollywood actors Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson, and let’s not forget Kanye’s best man Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé.
10 Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman $2.2m
The no-expense spared wedding took place in an enormous tent erected in a vineyard, with Aguilera walking down the aisle dressed in a Christian Lacroix gown. Five years later and it was all over. The pair tried to make it work for their son Max, then aged two, but had become unhappy together and decided it was best to go their separate ways. The pair split in 2010 and divorced the following year.
9 Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar $2.6m
British actress Elizabeth Hurley, the star of films including Bedazzled and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, wed Indian businessman Arun Nayar in March 2007 at Sudeley Castle in England. They then had a second wedding — this time a traditional Hindu one — at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur.
She was walked down the aisle by musician Elton John, one of her best friends. Despite the huge cost of the ceremonies, the couple actually profited from their big day by selling their wedding photos to Hello! magazine for around $5million.
The couple’s four-year marriage ended in June 2011, after the pair split the previous December after she was snapped kissing Australian cricketer Shane Warne. They were granted a fast-track divorce, which took just 92 seconds, after a judge found that their marriage had ‘broken down irretrievably’.
8 Paul McCartney and Heather Mills $3.6m
Beatle Paul McCartney’s wedding tied the knot with entrepreneur Heather Mills in June 2002 at a remote castle in Ireland in front of 300 guests. The ceremony was followed by a lavish reception, although guests had to put up with vegetarian food.
The couple had tried to keep the location of their wedding a secret but it slipped out, meaning there was a big crowd of fans outside St Salvator’s Chapel walls in Glaslough, Co Monaghan, as the pair swapped their vows. So did the marriage last? Er, no.
The pair split in May 2006 and and divorced in February 2008. And while the wedding was costly, the divorce was even more expensive with Mills being awarded around $27million as a one-off payment and another $13million in assets.
7 Elizabeth Taylor and Larry Fortensky $4m
More than 160 guests attended the ceremony, including Macaulay Culkin, Liza Minnelli and Eddie Murphy. Taylor’s wedding dress cost $25,000 but was donated for free by the designer Valentino. It’s believed Fortensky signed a prenuptial agreement before the pair wed, meaning he would receive a set figure of $1million if the they split, as long as the marriage lasted five years. The couple separated after five years, but remained friends. When she passed away in March 2011 she left him $800,000 in her will.
6 Liza Minnelli and David Gest $4.2m
The guest list included Queen guitarist Brian May, Liam Neeson, Joan Collins, Gloria Gaynor, Anthony Hopkins, Mia Farrow…the list goes on. Amazingly, Minnelli and Gest had only met six months earlier. They separated within 16 months, and were divorced five years later. Gest claimed that Minnelli would beat him up after drinking alcohol. Their split was dubbed ‘Hollywood’s dirtiest divorce’.
5 Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky $5m
Hillary and Bill said at the time: “We could not have asked for a more perfect day.”. And three cheers for Chelsea and Marc — theirs is the first relationship on this list to have actually lasted. In April 2014, the couple announced that Chelsea was pregnant and the couple were expecting their first child.
4 Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin $8m
Coleen’s dress cost around $330,000, while the wedding band was Irish boy band Westlife, who cost around $670,000. They also shelled out for five private jets which flew out their 64 guests from Britain to Italy for the celebrations. However, the couple didn’t have to foot the entire bill themselves as they were paid $4.2million by a magazine for the pictures. The couple have stood the test of time and now have two young boys.
3 Prince William and Kate $34m
When you’re grandmother is the Queen, you can hardly pop down to the wedding chapel in Las Vegas, so Britain pulled out all the stops and did it in style. A proper spectacle ensued, as the lovely couple wed in Westminster Abbey before being paraded through the streets of London in horse and carriage.
Both Kate and her sister Pippa, whose behind received much attention from the British press, wore dresses designed by Sarah Burton of UK fashion house Alexander McQueen. The couple are still very much together.
2 Vanisha Mittal and Amit Bhatia $66m
They paid Kylie Minogue around $330,000 to sing for just half an hour at the wedding and the pair celebrated with fireworks set of from…wait for it…the Eiffel Tower. Rumour has it that Kanye and Kim want to do the same thing. Mittal and Bhatia divorced in early 2013.
1 Prince Charles & Diana $110m
The ceremony was followed by a dinner attended by 120 guests at Buckhingham Palace, including a who’s who of royalty from around the world. Thousands of people flooded the streets of London that day and erupted in cheers when the couple appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to wave at the people below.
Sadly, the marriage did not last as evidence of each other’s flirtations with other people emerged. They divorced in August 1996, a year before Diana was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris. Charles’s second marriage, to Camilla Parker Bowles, was a civil ceremony and a much less extravagant affair.
