Every day seems to be a National Day for something, but National Martini Day is one to honor if you ask us, especially when vodka brand Stolichnaya has debuted their cucumber vodka, a crisp and fresh tasting new varietal begging for summer recipes. This is their first new flavored vodka launch since 2012.

The martini cocktail is a real feather in American ingenuity cap.

Purists may claim the traditional martini is made with gin, but for a crisper martini that can be flavored with seasonal herbs, fruits, and vegetables, a less aromatic spirit like vodka is perfect for the hot weather.

Martinis used to veer much more to the sweet side with generous splashes of vermouth, but today people normally prefer a drier version of this classic cocktail.

For some, true happiness is finding a few olives in your martini when you’re hungry. Others may prefer it dirty along with that olive for a salty briny rush or dressed with embellishments like a cocktail onion (A Gibson) or the perfect peel of lemon curled like a Slinky.

This adult beverage is a nuanced and easy cocktail to served either “on the rocks” in a tumbler or strained into a stately classic martini glass.  Less traditional martinis can invoke chocolate, apple or the color pink thanks to the meteoric rise of the Sex and the City driven-Cosmopolitan.

But we like the savory twists that Stoli’s latest flavor meshes well combined with in recipes… and in a crowded market of flavored vodkas, Stoli Cucumber is the exceptional standout. It is fresh, savory with a real cucumber taste and a refined smooth finish.

We found that it melded well with lime, cilantro, mint in martini recipes, and that it rocks in a Bloody Mary too. Make sure to find a good chile-infused rimming spice to try with it as well for that brunch or Sunday classic.

Stoli kindly let us sample their newbie and sent us some amazing recipes for this summers’ craft cocktail repertoire:
