Hui, the leader of Cube Entertainment boy group Pentagon (often stylized as PENTAGON or abbreviated to PTG), just made the day for K-pop fans by releasing his own version of Black Pink (often stylized as BLACKPINK) song Ddu-Du Ddu-Du — and it is awesome.
The phenomenal cover was released on Pentagon’s official Twitter account on Monday, November 5, 2018. Unlike most covers which are the singer singing to an instrumental version of the song, Hui went the extra mile to provide a new arrangement, instrumental, and melody. Ergo, Hui made this cover of Ddu-du Ddu-du his own.

Hui’s cover of Black Pink’s Ddu-du Ddu-du is not the first time he covered a popular song by another K-pop act. Apparently, he is making a name for himself with said covers starting with his version of Fake Love by internationally-acclaimed K-pop boy group BTS.
Promoting Pentagon amid Cube Entertainment’s slump
Hui covering popular K-pop songs by other K-pop acts may be a way to help further boost Pentagon as well as his own personal brand.
The thing is that Pentagon is a couple of years old with seven Korean extended plays and three Japanese extended plays (EPs). Their latest EP, Thumbs Up, recently released just two months ago.
Its featured title track, Naughty Boy, only has 11 million views. That isn’t bad per se, but for a Cube Entertainment K-pop act, that is lacking.
Hui’s covers will also help Cube Entertainment with their current “slump”. Though the entertainment label is establishing themselves with iKon, Btob, CLC, and G(I)-dle, they lost their most popular acts, Beast and 4minute.
It also doesn’t help that their most popular musical act, Hyuna, was recently let go because of her relationship with Pentagon member E’Dawn.
Supposedly because of the aforementioned relationship, Pentagon has nothing planned for the remainder of the year. Things may change as we get closer to the Christmas season, a time when K-pop acts release a lot of Christmas-theme music, but until then, no word on what Pentagon will be doing.
