So, you’re playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons and you’ve arrived on the island. You’ve picked your spot for a tent and settled in and now is the time to go exploring, right?
Except you’ll realize pretty soon that the island is full of pretty rivers, beautiful to look at. But, as there doesn’t seem to be any bridges or boats, these waterways are actually a massive pain because they severely reduce the area you can explore.
What you need is a vaulting pole to navigate these barriers and open up some new horizons.
Unfortunately, and as in life, you have to work for everything in Animal Crossing; just like lots of craftable items in the game, you’re going to need a recipe before you can construct your vaulting pole.
Luckily, all you need to do is follow some simple steps, and you’ll soon be pole-vaulting over the whole island.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons how to get the vaulting pole
Once you’ve had a full day on the island, Tom Nook will ask you to go see him at the Residents’ Services tent, and when you do, you’ll get the recipes for a fishing rod and net.
Tom will ask you to catch some local fauna for him; make sure you don’t ignore the man.
When you’ve brought Tom five fish and bugs (can be any mix of either fish or bugs), he’ll contact Blathers, the curator of the Animal Crossing museum.
Blathers has a task for you; this is precisely what you want, though.
Blathers wants you to help him set up a museum on the island (its what he does best), so first thing’s first, make sure you find a suitable spot for him to pitch his tent.
You then have to wait for Blathers himself to turn up, which won’t be until to the next calendar day, so you’ll have to amuse yourself in the meantime.
Blathers has the recipe for the vaulting pole
When Blathers arrives at the spot you’ve picked for him, he’ll ask you to go searching for exhibits across the island. Acknowledging that you’ll need to get around, he’ll give you the recipe for a beautiful vaulting pole and a shovel.
So now you just need to grab five pieces of softwood and lo and behold you have yourself a vaulting pole, time to get exploring.
