What do you think of His Dark Materials on BBC and HBO?

I've read Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy a few times and really enjoyed them.

The movie of the first book, The Golden Compass (2007) got poor reviews, though I thought some of it looked pretty amazing.

It was also criticized by some for watering down Pullman's attacks on organized religion, which also some protests over the movie's release.

Now the BBC and HBO are adapting the books for TV.

The series stars Dafne Keen as Lyra Belacqua, Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel, Clarke Peters as Dr Carne and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby.

Oh and that golden monkey!

What do you think? Will it be any good? You planning on watching or avoiding?
