Valerie Bertinelli will reportedly pay her ex-husband, Tom Vitale, $2.2 million as part of their divorce proceedings.

The settlement, officially finalized on November 22, 2022, shows that Bertinelli agreed to pay Vitale the hefty sum. She already paid him an additional $500,000 back in May.

However, in return for Bertinelli paying him that huge sum of money, Vitale must vacate her home in Malibu, California. According to court documents, he has until December 31, 2022, to move out, but only if she has paid him in full. Otherwise, he can stay without having to pay any rent.

While Bertinelli will be making a big payout to Vitale, it will seemingly be her only payout to him. According to their agreement, first obtained by Page Six, neither will pay the other spousal support.

The absence of spousal support was reportedly agreed upon in prenups signed before their 2011 marriage.

Bertinelli and Vitale initially met in 2004, and they wed in 2011. She filed for legal separation from Vitale in November of last year.

Valerie Bertinelli and Tom Vitale finalized divorce

Bertinelli announced on the 22nd that the pair were officially divorced. She delivered the news via an impromptu video filmed at the airport, which she shared on her social media.

In the footage, she revealed to her followers that she was at the airport preparing to see her son Wolfgang Van Halen when she got a phone call from her lawyers.

They gave her the news that the documents had been filed, and her divorce from Vitale was finalized.

Bertinelli responded with enthusiasm, indicating that she was “happily divorced” and even stating that it was the “second best day” of her life.

Before the divorce settlement, Vitale challenged the original prenup agreement they signed before marriage. In opposition to this prenup, Vitale demanded $50,000 per month from Bertinelli in spousal support.

The challenge of the prenup threatened to prolong the divorce proceedings. As a result, Bertinelli requested that the validity of their prenups be probed separately from their divorce proceedings.

While it seems the prenup’s denial of spousal support was held, Bertinelli will still be paying quite a significant sum to Vitale.

Why did Bertinelli and Vitale get divorced?

Bertinelli has not provided an explicit reason for her and Vitale’s divorce. However, when initially filing for divorce, she cited “irreconcilable differences” as her reason.

She did open up in an interview with the TODAY show about the impact of her divorce, though. She swore off love and indicated she was not interested in beginning another relationship.

She also stated that her relationship with Vitale caused her trust issues and was one of the reasons she was looking forward to being single.

Before her relationship with Vitale, Bertinelli had been married to musician Eddie Van Halen. However, the pair split in 2007 amid his struggles with addiction.

Despite their divorce, Bertinelli indicated in her memoir, Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today, that the two remained close. She also stated that they had put their past behind them by the time Van Halen passed away in 2020.
