Kid Rock has tried to explain why he went on a drunken and foul-mouthed rant against Oprah Winfrey last week at his bar in Nashville, Tennessee.

We previously reported that a video obtained by TMZ shows the 48-year-old musician offering vulgar commentary on Oprah at his Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N’ Roll Steakhouse. He also had choice words for The View co-host Joy Behar and comedian Kathie Lee Gifford.

Kid Rock speaks out on Twitter

Kid Rock took to Twitter on Friday evening to explain to his more than 655,000 Twitter followers that he trash-talked Oprah because of an incident that happened several years ago. He claimed that he wanted to appear on Oprah’s show some years back, but Oprah’s “people” wanted him to first say why “he loved” Oprah before he could be allowed to appear on her talk show.

“My people tried to get me to do The Oprah Winfrey show years ago and her people wanted me to write down 5 reasons why I loved her and her show…” he wrote. “I said f**k that and her. End of story.”

Twitter users respond

Kid Rock’s attempt to explain himself did not go down well with many Twitter users.

However, a few Twitter users appeared to approve of Kid Rock’s behavior. Some attacked Oprah based on Rock’s allegation that “her people” wanted him to “write down five reasons why” he loved Oprah.

Many in the audience at the honky-tonk bar when Rock verbally attacked Oprah also disapproved of his rant against the former talk show host. Although some appeared to cheer, there were also audible boos and disapproving comments from the audience.

Rock appeared unsteady on his feet and an officer eventually had to help him off the stage.

The boos from the crowd were not surprising. Oprah spent part of her childhood in Nashville. She attended East Nashville High School and studied communications at Tennessee State University on a full scholarship. She also started her career in Nashville at a local radio station and worked as a news anchor at a local TV station.

Oprah is popular in Nashville and Sharon Hurt, a local councilwoman, recently proposed renaming the Nashville International Airport after the media mogul.
