Anime fans want the disturbing tale to continue with Mahou Shoujo Site Season 2. If the Magical Girl Ore anime lampoons the entire genre, then Magical Girl Site takes the dark heart of Puella Magi Madoka Magica and rips it wide open.
At the same time, fans of the source material are saying that it’s best to go and read the Magical Girl Site manga series since the anime finished off with an original ending. But is there even enough content available to continue the anime?
Mangaka Kentaro Sato has been working on the Mahou Shoujo Site manga since July of 2013. It started as a spinoff of Magical Girl Apocalypse, a 16-volume series that featured magical girls being dismembered as part of an action-horror story.
On November 25, 2018, Sato tweeted out that the main story of the manga series has a “little bit longer” to go before reaching the ending. But what caught everyone’s attention was the announcement that a “big surprise” will happen before the end of 2018. Could it be that Mahou Shoujo Site Season 2 will officially be greenlit for production?
The series was originally serialized on a monthly basis in Champion Tap! magazine. After Chapter 55, new chapters began releasing weekly in Weekly Shonen Champion. Chapters are labeled as being “Enter #” in the magazine. When the anime finishes airing, Episode 12 of the manga will be at Enter 87/Chapter 87. Publisher Akita Shoten has published the Magical Girl Site manga series in the tankobon hardcover format in 10 volumes.
Some fans label all of the chapters after Enter 55/Chapter 55 as being “Part 2” or “Second Site” since the chapter count reset in the magazine back to Enter 1 for Chapter 56. However, the tankobon release continued the chapter count with Enter 56/Chapter 56.
The main series also inspired a manga spin-off called Magical Girl Site Sept (Mahou Shoujo Site Sept), which tells the origin story of one of the website admins. So, yes, the spin-off has a spin-off. Magical Girl Site Sept may be a spin-off, but it’s considered an integral part of the story. The story is considered to be much darker in nature based on the content and would probably make a controversial TV show if it were ever adapted into anime.
Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the English translation of the Magical Girl Site manga series. As of May 2018, the official English translation is up to Magical Girl Site Volume 6. Volume 7 is scheduled for release on September 25, 2018, while Volume 8 is set for January 22, 2019. Fan translation projects have been keeping up with the Japanese chapter releases.

Mahou Shoujo Site Manga Compared To The Magical Girl Site Anime
The anime adaptation is produced by animation studio Production doA, with Tadahito Matsubayashi acting as director and Takayo Ikami writing the scripts. Unlike recent anime like Tokyo Ghoul: re (read up on Tokyo Ghoul: re Season 2!), production doA took way more liberties and essentially tossed plot points in a blender.
Many actions, scenes, and events that happen in both involve different people doing the same actions with the change being made for no discernable reason. Some characters are omitted and magical abilities are modified. Scenes involving nudity were either changed to add clothing or were omitted entirely. A kiss shared between Aya Asagiri and Tsuyuno Yatsumura that occurred in manga Chapter 54 was skipped entirely by the anime. Unfortunately, the differences between the anime and manga are too numerous to list in this article.
Thankfully, the ordering of adapted chapters was mostly kept intact, although the ending of the anime was the most notable exception. Here is a rough guide for how the anime adapted the manga chapters.

- Episode 9: Chapters 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, and 42 (This episode shares the same title “God Won’t Abandon Me” as Chapter 42.)
- Episode 10: Chapters 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, and 47 (This episode shares the same title “Breaking” as Chapter 47.)

All in all, the anime found an ending related to the events of Volume 8. The pacing of the anime started to noticeably accelerate near the middle, with the anime flying through chapters, but the ending still left an opening for a second season.
The middle of the anime is also when the first major plot divergences became noticeable to fans of the manga. While some fans share the standard recommendation of starting from the beginning, others believe that starting from Chapter 26 is a more reasonable middle ground.
The main issue is how Production doA could create a sequel since the anime diverged so greatly by finishing off with an anime original ending. Aya and Tsuyuno received a happy ending together rather than the sad plot twist of the manga (which won’t be spoiled in this article). Still, it could be argued that Mahou Shoujo Site Episode 12 left enough wiggle room in the plot for a second season to happen since the Tempest is an unresolved threat.
Magical Girl Site Season 2 Release Date
As of the last update, Production doA or any company related to the production of the anime has not officially confirmed the Magical Girl Site Season 2 release date. Nor has the production of a sequel been announced.

In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when, or if, the Mahou Shoujo Site Season 2 premiere date will occur in the future.
The anime adaptation used elements of the manga up until right around Chapter 55, which finished off with a big “To Be Continued” in the manga. That leaves only 32 chapters unadapted. Considering that the anime averaged about 4.5 manga chapters for every episode, that means there is presently not enough material for making the second season.
Thankfully, since switching to a new magazine, new chapters are being released at a much faster rate as of 2017, so the manga creator could be up to around Chapter 110 by the beginning of 2019.
The Blu-Ray sales numbers are not in yet, but it’s quite significant that the anime was picked up by Amazon Prime as an exclusive. Streaming revenue has become a major factor in the financial success of anime, so, hopefully, the numbers justify producing the second season in the future.
Mahou Shoujo Site Season 2 Spoilers
The second season will be an anime sequel, but it will begin as more of a prequel. The story shifts focus away from Aya Asagiri to focus on two new magical girls and the simultaneous events that ran parallel with the first part of the story.
Audiences will be reintroduced to classmates Kayo Komura and Sakura Sakaki. Although both manga characters originally debuted in Enter/Chapter 56 of Volume 9, the girls both had brief cameo appearances in the anime, with Kayo showing up in a photograph in Episode 6 and Sakura appearing in the concert during Episode 3.
Kayo is the new main protagonist and she suffers from high school bullying because she’s the daughter of a murderer. A classmate named Melissa Maina Mitsushiro leads the class in tormenting Kayo. Her father killed three boys after they were suspected of killing Kayo’s younger sister and now he’s in prison, so Melissa says that the blood of a murderer flows in her veins. After her mother was hospitalized, Kayo is all alone and begins to suffer from depression.
Nana chooses Kayo to be a magical girl with the emblem of the sun. Kayo’s wand has the ability to copy the powers of any other magical girl she interacts with. The only limitation is that she can only store up to 10 powers and these powers can only be used once. Kayo is also the original owner of the Slaughter Note.
Sakura is like a sister to Kayo and she is there when it counts. Sakura believes that Kayo’s younger sister may have been murdered by magical girls based on the condition of Airi’s body. Sakura is also seeking out a certain magical girl that she believes may have played a role in her father’s death. Police called the mysterious death a suicide even though her father was discovered drowned on a street.
Sakura is an aspiring manga artist, so this otaku girl receives from Nana a video game controller as her magical girl wand. Her emblem is the Greek letter sigma and she has the ability to generate shockwaves.
When both girls realize the truth behind the magical girl website they are forced to take drastic measures in order to protect their family and friends. They will eventually team up with Aya Asagiri to fight back against the site admins in order to stop Tempest.
Let’s just hope anime-only fans don’t have to wait too long to watch this part of the story be animated as Mahou Shoujo Site Season 2. Stay tuned!
