The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War release date has been confirmed to be on October 10, 2022, the Fall 2022 anime season. It’s reported that there will be 52 episodes in total.

On October 3, 2022, VIZ Media officially announced that Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War will be available to English-speaking fans in the United States on Hulu USA whereas the episodes will be streaming internationally on Disney+.

The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 1 ED special video features the music “Rapport” by Tatsuya Kitani.

VIZ Media previously announced that the Bleach Season 17 episodes would be “simulcast” weekly. However, keep in mind that VIZ Media and Disney+ will be releasing details specific to each territory or region.

The situation is so confusing that many fans have claimed they’ll be turning to pirate sites. Crazily enough, Bleach Season 17 Episode 1 was leaked on torrent sites a day before the international premiere.

The Bleach Hulu USA release date is at 8:30 AM PST/12:30 PM EST on October 10, 2022.

For international fans wanting to watch Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War streaming, there is a Bleach Season 17 Disney+ streaming deal. This exclusive streaming deal represents a huge move by the House of Mouse to take over part of the anime streaming market.

On September 30, 2022, it was confirmed that Disney+ Canada was listing “Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War: Season 1” in the TV release schedule of the Disney+ Star section. However, Bleach wasn’t confirmed for Disney + USA since the US version of the streaming app doesn’t have Disney+ Star yet.

The Bleach Disney+ UK release schedule hasn’t been announced. However, the first episode was released at 4:30 PM GB time but nothing is confirmed about a weekly schedule. It’s likely that new episodes will be streaming weekly in GB on Mondays.

Similarly, the Bleach Disney+ Australia release schedule hasn’t been officially announced. Regardless, Australian anime news reporters like Yonkou Productions have declared that the episode has been released in Oz at 2:30 AM GMT+11 (11:30 AM EST) on October 11, 2022. That should mean the land of Oz will be watching new Bleach 2022 episodes weekly on Tuesdays.

As of October 10, 2022, Anime Geek hasn’t been able to confirm anything concerning streaming Bleach on Disney+ France, Germany, Spain, etc. The lack of information has jumpstarted rumors on Twitter that are claiming that much of Europe will not be simulcast.

On October 9, 2022, it was confirmed that Disney+ Brazil is streaming the episodes.

Unfortunately, the majority of Disney+ Latin America has been left in the dark. On October 10, 2022, the official Disney+ Help Twitter stated, “We still do not have any update about this title’s availability for Disney+ Latin America. But don’t forget to follow us on social media to catch up about future [announcements].” VIZ Media hasn’t provided any updates regarding Mexico, Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, and other Latin American countries.

This Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War trailer highlights the 13 Court Guard Squads. The PV trailer was released on October 7, 2022.

It is already confirmed by the official Bleach anime website that Disney+ Japan, Hulu Japan, Amazon Prime Video Japan, and other streaming services in Japan will be streaming the new episodes as they release every week on Tuesdays at 12:00.

Oricon News reports that Bleach Season 17 will have 4 cours in total. But it’s a split cour broadcasting schedule where there will be a break between the 4 parts.

This Bleach TYBW PV trailer was released on September 30, 2022.
Bleach Trailer 2 was released on September 11, 2022.

It’s also reported that Crunchyroll lost the bidding war for the streaming rights licenses. On September 30, 2022, Crunchyroll removed all of the old Bleach episodes all the way up until Bleach Season 16 from its website, so it seems to be confirmed that Crunchyroll definitely won’t be streaming Bleach Season 17.

During Aniplex Online Fest 2022 on September 24, 2022, the Bleach presentation showed off a new PV trailer based on Episode 1. They even teased audiences by talking about Americans watching Bleach, but there was no Disney+ confirmation or any specific streaming plans mentioned!

However, VIZ Media has specifically stated that Bleach Season 17 episodes will be “simulcast”, which means they will be released internationally on a weekly basis rather than being reserved for binge-watching.

If we look to Disney+ exclusive Summer Time Render as an example, Disney+ Japan has been streaming episodes weekly but other countries received their dubbed version at later dates. English-speaking countries still haven’t received a single episode as of September 2022 and it’s suspected that the two-cour Summer Time Render anime will be released for binge-watching in those territories.

Additionally, some fans have spread unwarranted fears that having Disney+ streaming Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War means that the blood and gore will be censored. Disney+ is already streaming R-rated titles. As such, Disney+ should be streaming Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War uncensored.

Some lucky fans living in Japan were able to experience Bleach Season 17 early. One thousand fans got to experience an early premiere of the first two episodes on September 11, 2022.

Viz Media has licensed the new anime for an English-language release. The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War English dub release hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Bleach’s final arc was initially confirmed to be in production as part of the Bleach 20th anniversary project. Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 17, 2021 reported that Bleach Season 17 will adapt the Thousand-Year Blood War story arc from the Bleach manga series by creator Tite Kubo, which means the anime will finish adapting the Bleach manga’s ending.

On April 21, 2022, Kubo announced, “I’ve decided on the opening and ending songs for the Anime!!! Great!!!” While it’s unusual for any manga creator have any say about the theme song music selection, this announcement gives anime fans an idea of just how involved Kubo is in the production of the final anime series.

On September 11, 2022, it was announced that the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War OP theme song music “Scar” will be performed by Tatsuya Kitani, while the ED “Saihate” will be performed by SennaRin.

In June 2022, Kubo revealed an update on the progress of the Bleach anime return. The Bleach audio dubbing procedure is now ongoing according to Kubo. Although he did not say how far the audio recordings have progressed, voice actors are usually the last ones to touch an anime because the booth recording begins only once the main animation is finished. So, since the team is already recording their lines, Bleach must have completed a chunk of its episode order.

On December 16, 2021, the latest Weekly Shonen Jump news leaked out, confirming that the new Bleach anime will start its broadcast in Fall 2022. The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War release date time frame received an official confirmation during Jump Festa 2022, which took place on December 18 and 19, 2021.

Besides the Bleach Season 17 announcement, Jump Festa 2022 contained announcements for Spy X Family, World Trigger, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dr. STONE, My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man, Platinum End, and many other anime.

A Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War trailer preview video was also released during the Jump Festa 2022 event.

On September 11, 2022, VIZ Media confirmed that the Bleach Season 17 release date was on October 10, 2022.

The original Bleach anime ran from October 2004 through March 2012, ending with Episode 366 of Bleach Season 16. Presumably, Bleach’s new season will be called Bleach Season 17 and start with Bleach Episode 367.

The number of Bleach 2022 episodes has not yet been announced. However, the Thousand-Year Blood War arc is hundreds of chapters in the manga, so that’s why the Bleach 2022 anime is 4 cours.

A “cour” is a three-month TV broadcasting unit based on the physical seasons, and anime seasons usually have between 10 to 13 episodes per cour.

That means there will be 52 new Bleach 2022 episodes.

The main staff and animation studio producing the Bleach 2022 anime season were announced during Jump Festa 2022.

Studio Pierrot produced the original 16 seasons. Since they’re well-known for producing long-running anime series like the Black Clover anime (see our article on the Black Clover Season 4 anime), it’s not surprising that the  studio is returning to to produce Bleach’s new season.

Bleach character designer Masashi Kudo and music composer Shiro Sagisuo are both returning.

However, the biggest change to the main staff is that director Tomohisa Taguchi (Akudama Drive, Kino’s Journey) is replacing the previous director, Noriyuki Abe. The new director will also be handling the series composition writing.

What’s more, there was a Bleach 2020 project that animates the Bleach: Burn The Witch story arc. Directed by Tatsuro Kawano (animation director for a season of the Psycho-Pass anime series), the Bleach OVA episode is being produced by animation company Studio Colorido. This article provides everything that is known about Bleach Season 17 (Bleach 2022 anime/Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War) and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors, and analysis. Meanwhile, let’s delve down into what is known for certain.

Bleach 2020 OVA episode adapts the Burn The Witch manga one-shot

Anime fans were hoping that the Bleach 2020 announcement would launch Bleach’s new season quickly. The good news is that the anime is coming back relatively quickly for a Bleach OVA episode.

Studio Colorido is producing the new episode for a 2020 release. The studio is best known for producing Pokemon: Twilight Wings.

The studio is a subsidiary of Twin Engine, which owns the anime licensing rights to big names such as the Dororo anime and the Vinland Saga anime (see our Vinland Saga Season 2 anime article).

Director Tatsuro Kawano was the animation director for Psycho-Pass 2. He was also the director for the fourth opening of the Boruto anime series.

Bleach: Burn The Witch was a one-shot manga chapter that Kubo released in Shonen Jump back on July 16, 2018. It was Kubo’s first new Bleach manga chapter since August 2016.

Originally, it was announced by Weekly Shonen Jump in mid-August 2020 that the Burn The Witch manga would only have four chapters, but then it was announced a week later that Burn The Witch Volume 1 would be released on October 2, 2020. Typically, if a manga series is only one volume it will be listed without a number.

Viz Media will be digitally publishing the official English translation of the Burn The Witch manga.

The two main Bleach characters for this story are named Noel Niihashi and Spangle Niniii. They will be voiced by Japanese voice actors Yuina Yamada and Asami Tano, respectively.

Set 12 years after the Quincy Blood War, Bleach: Burn The Witch told the story of two witches working for the Soul Society in Reverse London.

In this world, dragons are real, and in the ancient past, caused the majority of deaths in London.

The modern residents of London cannot see dragons, so it’s up to the people in Reverse London to control the dragons and protect the people from a fiery death.

Bleach manga compared to the Bleach 2022 anime

The anime is based on the Bleach manga series by artist and writer Tite Kubo. Published in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2001 through 2016, the Bleach manga ended Volume 74 with Bleach Chapter 686.

The official English translation of the Bleach manga was released by North American publisher VIZ Media. The English Bleach Volume 74 came out back in October 2018.

The anime followed the manga’s story up until Episode 64 when multiple anime original story arcs were introduced in order to give Kubo more time to create new manga chapters. These filler episodes continued until Episode 110, but then the anime continued to rely on filler multiple times over the years.

Episodes 128 through 137, Episodes 168 through 189, Episodes 230 through 265, and Episodes 311 through 342 were all filler. Needless to say, this amount of filler content is unusual for an anime series so reading the Bleach manga is like a different experience.

The Bleach Season 16 anime finished by adapting the Lost Substitute Shinigami arc, which was covered by manga chapters 424 through 479.

Bleach Season 17 anime will pick up with the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War arc (also known as the Quincy arc), which includes chapters 480 through 686. Presumably, the anime will not overly rely on filler episodes this time around.

Therefore, assuming that Bleach’s new season adapts the entirety of the story arc, the anime could adapt the Bleach manga’s ending. But it will take multiple seasons since we’re talking about over 200 chapters, which is almost a third of the entire manga.

The good news is that English-only manga readers can read ahead right now. The bad news is that Bleach’s new season run will likely be the ending of the anime series unless a Bleach manga sequel is announced.

When the Wandenreich launch an assault on the Soul Society, an all-out war between the Quincy and the Shinigami has begun. The survival of the Soul Society is put to the test and Ichigo must survive super-intense training in order to have a chance at fighting back.
