Earlier today, it was revealed that the classic Ghostbusters franchise is getting rebooted. Jason Reitman has been named as the director of the movie, and since his father, Ivan Reitman, directed the first two, fans are thrilled. But who will take on the lead roles of this new movie, set to be released in 2020?

There are reports that Reitman has started to cast teenagers for four roles, roles which could potentially be the four main characters in the movie. It’s currently unknown whether the original cast members will make cameos, have larger roles, or not be involved at all.

Of the original cast members, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson are still alive. Harold Ramis, who played the beloved nerdy character of Egon, passed away in 2014.

Little is known about the cast of the new Ghostbusters movie, but we do know that this newest movie will be a continuation of Ivan’s legacy with the franchise. It will be set in a world that was saved by the Ghostbusters in the original movie from 1984.

It looks like it may completely ignore the 2016 all-female Ghostbusters movie which starred Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon and received mediocre reviews.

But Jason could be inspired to keep the playing field fair, as there are reports that he’s going for two boys and two girls for the four teenage roles he’s currently casting for.

As for now, Reitman has revealed that he wants this new Ghostbusters movie to unfold naturally, meaning he is keeping lots of details under wraps for now.

In fact, it appears that he had previously revealed that he didn’t want to do a Ghostbusters movie simply because he loved the universe that his father had created. However, Ivan will produce the movie alongside his son, so Jason has plenty of support from the original director of the movies.

As for the potential stars who will be cast for this movie, we’ll just have to wait and see.
