Veteran U.S. character actor, Arthur Franz, has died in California

Arthur Franz, prolific actor of television and film, has died of complications from emphysema and heat failure. He was 86.

Franz appeared in the 1948 “Jungle Patrol”, in 1949 he appeared with John Wayne in the “Sands of Iwo Jima” and in 1951’s “Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man.” Franz worked with the late president Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy Davis, in the 1957 film “Hellcats of the Navy.”

Arthur Franz was a retired veteran serving his country in the Army Air Forces during World War II.  A New Jersey native, Franz started working in the theater in New York before moving to Los Angeles and taking film and television roles.
