Valentine’s Day 2013 Best Bets: Godiva lives up to reputation, Gund Bear a home run

Monsters and Critics’ Valentine’s Day 2013 best gifts to consider include Godiva Chocolates – with over 40 different selections of gifts that you can indulge any sweetheart this February 14.

Valentine’s Day gifts – at the very least – should always include some good chocolate. Cheap bon-bons can ruin your chances of serious loving later on, so it’s best you heed my warning.

It’s also good to know that the magic love bullet in chocolate is Cacao. The darker the better for us all actually. The natural minerals and stimulants in dark chocolate fuel physical agility and sexual stamina. It’s good for your brain too.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, do not wait until the last minute to plan for the day. Then panic can set in when you can’t think of anything to do or buy and you end up with a hack card and horrible gift, like a bargain box of waxy chocolates from CVS. Don’t be that guy.

We have been trying out all sorts of fun things for the big day, including classic chocolates from Godiva, a brand that will not let you down.

Godiva Chocolatier was founded 80 years ago in Brussels, Belgium, by master chocolatier Joseph Draps. The company is known for their elegant, hand-crafted chocolates known with super smoothness, and a crisp shell, molded designs and classic gold ballotin box packaging.

Today there are more than 450 Godiva shops in more than 80 countries worldwide, including 275 in North America. The first Godiva shop opened in the U.S. in 1972.

Many of Godiva’s chocolates contain hazelnut praline, a European favorite.

Side note: Godiva has even infiltrated American TV with Duff Goldman of Food Network’s shows Ace of Cakes and Sugar High. Duff is also the owner of the Charm City Cakes bakeries.

In 2006, Food Network tapped Duff and his fellow artists at the bakery to star in Ace of Cakes. Duff currently stars in Food Network’s Sugar High.  Godiva and Duff’s partnership began in 2010 at the NYC Wine and Food Festival where he and Godiva’s Chefs had an immediate connection. Godiva’s Cake Truffles Collection rolled out in September 2012 featuring four whimsical truffles inspired by Duff’s favorite cake recipes.

For this Valentine’s Day, Godiva brings the noise with their Keepsake Heart Gift Tin ($15), Chocolate Fondue Kit for Two ($42), Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Chocolate Cigars ($15), Milk Chocolate Heart ($8), Iconic Valentine’s Day Satin Heart (29 pc: $75, 15 pc $40), 2013 Valentino the Bear by Gund ($28), Gold Ballotin (8 pc: $15, 36 pc: $50) and more.
