What to believe, what to believe. The Daily Mail is postulating this Lifetime turgid potboiler called “True Tori” is one big construct by a crafty reality TV star who needs some cash.
After all, this is the daughter of Dynasty honcho Aaron, who even admitted in her own book, Spelling It Like It Is, that reality shows need a narrative structure.
She said of working on previous reality show, Tori and Dean: ‘I’m Aaron Spelling’s daughter. I knew how to write the story. I knew what would tug on heartstrings.’
Now she tells a longtime friend that the guilt of their own beginning is weighing on her. “We both cheated. We fell in love.”
Spelling is referring to the fact that when Tori and her now-husband Dean McDermott first met they were both already married to other people.
McDermott’s first wife was Mary Jo Eustace. In July 2005, McDermott began filming the Lifetime (!!) TV movie Mind Over Murder in Ottawa, alongside Tori Spelling. The two began an affair the night they met, despite both being married.
In next Tuesday’s all-new episode of True Tori, Lifetime’s new hit docudrama, the boomerang is full circle on the network that created this hot mess of a relationship to begin with!
“I haven’t dealt with any of it yet,” Tori tells her friend in the clip. Hello! Your lawyers and the network have sat down and plotted this all out in a conference room somewhere.
In January, McDermott “voluntarily” checked into rehab to seek treatment for sex addiction after reports surfaced that he cheated on his wife in December 2013. Now, the cooking aficionado known as “The Gourmet Dad” who is part of Canada’s “Chopped” team is working his way back to Tori.
True Tori airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on Lifetime.
