Following the Orlando Pulse nightclub murders on Sunday, the Gay Mens’ Chorus in London took to the streets of Soho to sing a capella “Bridge Over troubled Water” and pay their respects to the dead.
The event was a show of solidarity to the LGBTQ community in Orlando, 49 of whom fell victim to a lone shooter in one of the most deadly shootings in the history of the U.S.
Police have identified Omar Mateen, 29, as the shooter who reportedly swore allegiances to ISIS. He has also been reported to have mental health issues and may even have been gay himself. The most recent reports have included men who say they met Mateen via apps like Grindr or who had seen him frequent the club over the years.
Expressions of support and solidarity have come from Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Queen Elizabeth II and countless others of all denominations.
