This week on Billboard’s album chart

A bit of a surprise this week on Billboard’s album chart, the soundtrack to the Disney Channel movie High School Musical clawed its way back to the top spot selling over 142,000 copies this week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The ‘tween’ film soundtrack overtook stiff competition from the likes of James Blunt, who sold 126,000 last week and a huge debut by E-40 whose latest album, My Ghetto Report Card debuted at number three, the Bay Area rapper’s first top ten appearance ever.

This week saw big releases by Ben Harper and the “purple” one himself Prince, who for surly will challenge the Disney soundtrack for chart supremacy.

The Top Ten:

1.High School Musical: The Original Soundtrack
2. James Blunt Back to Bedlam
3. E-40 My Ghetto Report Card
4. Ne-Yo In My Own Words
5. Juvenile Reality Check
6. Carrie Underwood Some Hearts
7. Matisyahu Youth
8. Johnny Cash The Legend of Johnny Cash
9. Fall Out Boy From Under the Cork Tree
10. Jack Johnson and Friends Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film “Curious George”.
