DIRECTV announced today the premiere of The Fighting Season, a six-episode documentary series executive produced by Patron tequila and John Paul Mitchell (among many businesses) mogul John Paul DeJoria, created and produced by Ricky Schroder. The series will premiere on Tuesday, May 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on DIRECTV’s Audience Network.
In March of 2014, as America was in the midst of the war in Afghanistan, the Taliban increased the frequency of their attacks in an attempt to prevent the Afghan people from voting and derail the historic 2014 Afghan presidential elections. Highly trained American soldiers commanded by the elite XVIII Airborne Corps, America’s strategic response force, and the 10th Mountain Division, Spartan Brigade were enlisted to ensure that the Democratic election process was upheld, and that power would be transferred peacefully for the first time in the country’s history.
Inspired by the bravery of the men and women who serve our country, actor/director Ricky Schroder and a small film crew travelled to Afghanistan to be embedded with the units for over three months and document their missions during the deadliest and most violent time in the war’s history. The result of their efforts is The Fighting Season, an unprecedented look into the experiences of the US Army in Afghanistan –from working with Kabul police forces securing polling sites to hunting high-value Taliban targets and ultimately ensuring that more than thirteen years of sacrifice by American soldiers had not been in vain.
“The Fighting Season, for the first time ever, gives viewers an in-depth look into the experiences of American soldiers in the war against Taliban insurgents and Al-Qaeda, the longest war in our nation’s history. These soldiers were tasked not only with destroying the enemy, but also building a democracy, developing a modern security force and helping the people take control of their own country,” said Schroder. “To me, a soldier has always represented the epitome of courage and duty — and, in Afghanistan, I was certainly in the company of heroes. It is my privilege to share their stories with you.”
“The Audience Network is proud to share the inspiring stories of the men and women who serve to protect and defend our nation,” said Chris Long, SVP Original Content and Production, DIRECTV. “What Ricky accomplished in Afghanistan is unlike anything that has ever been seen before and will give our viewers unprecedented access to the war in Afghanistan in a completely new and unfiltered light.”
The Fighting Season was produced by Ricky Schroder Productions and is executive produced by Schroder, Jim Rabon and John Paul DeJoria.
