Beijing - China has recorded its second human fatality from bird flu this year and its 19th overall, state media reported Friday.
The 41-year-old man died Wednesday in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south-western China, and the Health Ministry confirmed he died of H5N1, the strain of bird flu that can be deadly in humans.
The man, identified only my his family name Liang, had contact with sick poultry before falling ill February 12 in Nanning, the regional capital, the ministry said. He was hospitalized two days later, but he did not recover.
Liang's death followed that of a 22-year-old man in the central province of Hunan on January 24, also of H5N1.
Adding China's latest bird-flu case to the latest World Health Organization statistics, 366 people in 14 countries in Asia and Africa have been infected by the virus and 232 have died from it.
