Otepaeae, Estonia - Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk on Saturday won her first-ever World Cup event when she took first place in a 10 kilometre classic race Otepaeae in Estonia.
Kowalczyk finished in a time of 30 minutes 54.2 seconds, beating Finland's Virpi Kuitunen into second place by 7.8 seconds. Third place went to Valentina Shevchenko from the Ukraine.
Kuitunen continues to hold a commanding lead in the overall World Cup standings with 997 points - more than 300 ahead of Norway's Marit Bjoergen who has 684 points. Katerina Neumannova from the Czech Republic is third with 552 points.
A men's 15 kilometre classic race will be run later Saturday.
