New super zoom camera from Nikon

Berlin (dpa) - The new Coolpix P510 has a built-in lens which reaches a 42-time optical zoom focal length between 24 and 1,000 millimetres. The super zoom camera's CMOS picture sensor has 16 megapixels, videos can be recorded with full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (1080p) and the display is swivel-mounted. Purchasers of the new Nikon Coolpix L810 camera must do without the swivel-mounted display and it offers only a 26-times optical zoom. But it is somewhat less expensive at 249 euros (325 dollars) while the P510 sells for 429 euro. Both cameras will be available in mid-March.

External drives support new Blu-ray standards

Berlin (dpa) - LG will be bringing two new external Blu-ray drives to the market. Both the BP40NS20 and CP40NG10 can read new three and four layer Blu-rays (BDXL). The BP40NS20 can also write on the new discs and fit up to 128 GB on one disc. The CP40NG10 can only burn conventional DVDs and CDs. Both devices can be connected to USB 2.0 ports and do not need an external power supply. The Blu-ray burner will be available in February for 109 euros and the combo drive will follow in March for 89 euros.

Thin tablet from Toshiba

Berlin (dpa) - The new Toshiba tablet AT200 is hitting stores with a 7.7-millimetre-thin casing. The flat shell includes a 10.1 inch multi-touch display with a maximum resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels and a 1.2 GHz Cortex processor with dual core. It will support Bluetooth and WiFi but not UMTS. The Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) operating system is installed. The tablet will come in two versions. The AT200- 100 has 32 GB of internal storage and costs 649 euros while the AT200- 101 offers half the storage and costs 100 euros less.

Outdoor camera survives diving and frost

Berlin (dpa) - The new Lumix DMC-FT4 from Panasonic can survive even the harshest of conditions including water depths of up to 12 metres, minus 10 degrees Celsius and falls from up to two metres. The camera would also be useful for hiking and other adventure trips as it has GPS, an altimeter and a compass. The 12 megapixel sensor takes normal and quick series photos, full HD videos and panorama shots. The robust, compact camera will be available in shops starting in mid-March for 399 euros in silver, orange and blue.

New Easypix tablet with Android 4.0

Berlin (dpa) - Easypix's Easypad 970 Satellite tablet computer is installed with the Android 4.0 Google operating system. In addition to the Ice Cream Sandwich OS, the device also has a 9.7 inch multi-touch display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, two megapixel cameras on the front and rear, and a battery that lasts for up to seven hours of surfing. Network connections are only through WiFi as there is no UMTS module, but mobile users can connect a surf stick to one of the two USB ports. The tablet will hit shops in late February and cost 349 euros.

Free hotspots for 3DS owners

Berlin (dpa) - Owners of a Nintendo 3DS will be able to surf via WiFi free of charge in various locations. All told, the Japanese manufacturer is offering about 5,000 hotspots in 21 European countries. The access points are located predominantly in hotel chains and fast food restaurants. If there is a hotspot nearby, the handheld device will automatically make a connection. Users can then play against other 3DS owners online or buy or download new content through E-Shops.
