Seven-inch tablet with Android OS
Berlin (dpa) - Viewsonic is introducing a tablet with the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system. The ViewPad 7e is a white device with a seven-inch display and a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor. It has an HDMI port and two cameras for photos and video calls. The ViewPad can also be used as an e-book reader with the pre-installed Kindle App from Amazon. The tablet is available in stores now for 179 euros (248 dollars).
Mouse and keyboard for gamers
Berlin (dpa) - Two new input devices from Logitech are tailored for hardcore gamers by having backlighting and adjustable weight. The G105 keyboard does not only have its own backlighting, it also has six individually programmable keys. The G9x mouse, meanwhile, offers a so-called weight-tuning system with which gamers can make the mouse as heavy as they want. The tracking speed of the mouse is up to 4.19 metres per second with a resolution between 200 and 5,700 dpi. Available in stores in November, the G105 will cost 70 euros and the mouse 80 euros.
Laptop shows 3D and 2D on same display
Berlin (dpa) - Toshiba has presented a new laptop with a glasses-free 3D display. The Qosmio F750-11U can simultaneously show 3D and 2D videos thanks to an Intel Core i7-2670 QM processor and a Geforce GT 540 M graphics card by Nvidia. The 500 GB hard drive has a flash memory for higher speeds. The laptop, which has a 15.6-inch display and weighs 2.9 kilograms, costs 1,649 euros.
Outdoor speakers from Boston Acoustics
Berlin (dpa) - The Voyager speaker series from Boston Acoustics is especially designed for usage in the open air. Making that possible is the cabinets made of UV-resistant polypropylene. Heavy duty aluminium brackets are included. The two-way speakers cover a frequency from 57 Hz to 22 kHz and the price depends on the size. The smallest model is the Voyager 40 with a 115-millimetre diameter for 139 euros per speaker. The biggest version, the Voyager 70, offers a 180-millimetre diameter and costs 249 euros.
Hard drive for rough use
Berlin (dpa) - A new hard drive from Buffalo Technology has been designed to survive falls from more than 2 metres thanks to rubber bumpers. The MiniStation Extreme is especially suited for travellers with removable integrated USB cable snaps and a weight of only 230 grams. The device supports USB 3.0 and offers a capacity of 1 TB. Two software packages for backups and data encryption are included in the price of 93 euros.
Gaming laptop from MSI
Berlin (dpa) - The GT780DSX is a new powerful laptop from MSI specially designed for gamers. The 17.6-inch device has an aluminium casing and a keyboard with different coloured lighting. The technical furnishings depend on the selected configuration with the basic model for 1,499 euros including two 500 GB SATA hard drives and 8 GB RAM. Regardless of model, all have the Intel Core processor i7-2670QM and the Geforce graphics card GTX 570M. The laptop weighs 3.9 kilograms and is 55 millimetres thick.
Free mail encryption for Thunderbird
Berlin (dpa) - Thunderbird users can encrypt their email with the upgrade Cryptobird. The software was developed by scientists from the Technical University in Darmstadt, Germany, and is available for free online. The main component is that encrypted emails can be browsed in their entirety. According to the developers, Cryptobird integrates the usual Thunderbird interface and users can hardly tell the difference when using it. An update coming in the future should also make possible the encryption and browsing of calendar entries.
