New tech: E-readers, media players and fast hard drives

New Pocketbook reader in colour and black-and-white
Berlin (dpa) - The company Pocketbook is bringing five new E-book readers onto the market with three of them belonging to the Pocketbook Pro series with a black-and-white E-Ink display. The 912 and its 9.7-inch display is the most expensive of the three at 339 euro (470 dollars) while the 612 and its 6-inch display costs 189 euro. The 611 is just as large as the 612 but purchasers must do without some functions such as Bluetooth, MP3 support and corresponding headphones port, dropping the price to 129 euro.
In addition, there is the Pocketbook A10 with a colour 10.1-inch display and Android 2.3.5 for 249 euro. The Pocketbook 360 Plus has only a 5-inch E-Ink display and weighs just 185 grams, perfect for mobile users, while costing 124 euro. All devices support the usual formats such as EPUB, PDF, Adobe DRM and TXT and books can be added by WLAN.
Media player with WLAN and Facebook access
Munich (dpa) - Western Digital is offering its WD TV Live media player also with WLAN access, allowing for videos and music to be played from the computer onto a television without a network cable. In addition, the new WD TV Live has built-in internet access to Facebook as well as card games and the video platform Dailymotion. The retail price is 99 euro.
Powerline adapter with three ports from Devolo
Berlin (dpa) - The network company Devolo has come up with a new powerline adapter, the dLAN 500 AVtriple+, with three Gigabit Ethernet ports. That allows for users to connect to routers or modems with numerous devices at the same time. The maximum data transmission is 500 MBit/s, and the data can be encrypted with just the push of a button. The individual triple adapter sells for 100 euro and costs 180 euro as part of the starter set with a dLAN 500 AV plus. Both variations will be available in shops this month.
