USB data security just got a little more secure thanks to the tech boffins at LG Electronics, who have this week launched a pair of new USB drives; one arrives equipped with anti-virus and malware protection software, while the other boasts biometric fingerprint technology and password protection.

Dealing with the former first, LG’s Vaccine USB arrives at the world’s first USB drive bolstered with anti-virus and malware protection for a large amount of data while also delivering extra security with real-time system monitoring and hardware scans.
The Vaccine USB’s "plug and auto run" function means that it will deliver protection to any PC or Notebook from the instant it is connected, before then automatically monitoring incoming traffic for malicious content.
Also, the included anti-virus and malware software comes with a free two-year license and can be regularly updated by users via an automatic online update service. The license can be renewed upon its expiry at "a lower than market cost" outlines LG.
The Vaccine USB comes available in capacity sizes ranging from 512MB through to 8GBs.
LG has also unveiled its debut biometric USB drive, which comes complete with fingerprint recognition technology designed to provide users with the peace of mind delivered by additional electronic security that ably protects personal information while on-the-go.
After inputting their fingerprint via bespoke ID software held within the USB drive, users are then also asked to create a security password to increase the level of portable data protection even further. A total of 10 different fingerprints can be stored on the drive.
"Data is often the most valuable asset to individuals and businesses, and keeping it secure when in transit is a top priority. In instances when data is stolen or lost, dire consequences are often experienced such as reputation damage, financial loss or identity theft," commented Fiona Landsberg, marketing manager at LG Electronics. "LG’s new biometric USB is designed to minimise the risks associated with data loss and help ensure information is accessed only by the correct people."
The biometric USB drive is available in capacities ranging from 512MB to 4GB and also includes a safety ejection feature to help avoid data corruption, and also a ‘favourites function’ that allows users to quickly access their Internet links.
