Microsoft delivers Vista SP1 release candidate to testers

American software giant Microsoft has today said that the final release of its much talked about Windows Vista SP1 (Service Pack 1) is still on target for arrival in the early part of 2008. And, to help bolster confidence, it has moved to furnish a limited number of testers with an SP1 release candidate. Credit: Microsoft.More pointedly, some 15,000 invitation-only testers have been gifted with the Vista SP1 RC Preview release this week, with a Microsoft Corp. spokesperson outlining to industry watcher ComputerWorld that: "The RC Preview incorporates feedback from users in our beta program, including changes to the setup and installation experience."The initial tester allocation for the SP1 beta release ran to around 12,000 when it was issued towards the end of September following months of misty confusion as to when and if Microsoft would ever deliver any form of Service Pack release for the Windows Vista operating system, which launched at the end of January 2007.Interestingly, while the RC Preview version of SP1 is in the hands of some 15,000 testers, it will not be limited to that amount, added the spokesperson while also offering that Microsoft will release an SP1 RC to "a broader group of testers" some time in the near future. And, as the early 2008 official release draw nearer for Redmond-based Microsoft and Vista users, the spokesperson also maintained that another pre-release iteration of SP1 will eventually be opened to everyone and anyone who wants to put it through its paces – although concrete details in relationship to event timing have not been divulged at this time.
