Sony Corporation has this week become the latest computer manufacturer to add a more ecologically minded perspective to its hardware catalogue with the introduction of its Graphic Splash Eco Edition VAIO notebooks. Credit: Sony Corp.From an aesthetic point of view, Sony says its new VAIOs will arrive in four vibrant and natural styles, which will serve to set the "eye-catching notebooks" apart from the rest of the computer pack while also clearly demonstrating the user’s green dedication when it comes to protecting the environment.The four designs, which are "Caribbean Water, Clay Earth, Spotted Life [leopard print] and Bloom," combine to make the Eco Edition VAIOs "the most distinctive PCs on the planet," claims Sony.More importantly, the quartet of stylish new notebooks will offer up slim physical design in order to use minimal natural resources; easy-to-recycle production materials; largely recyclable packaging materials, RoHS compliant components, which are free of hazardous substances (including lead). Also, Sony is offering free recycling of Sony branded products, which also includes rechargeable batteries. Furthermore, Sony has stated that it will donate one percent of the price of every Graphic Splash Eco Edition VAIO that it sells to non-profit organisations striving to protect and preserve the planet’s delicate ecology via the ‘1% For the Planet’ business alliance.Consumers choosing to bring their old PC systems in for recycling at participating Sony Style stores will receive a credit toward the purchase of a new VAIO notebook.
