Another money making scam! If mobiles can be used on some airlines now then why should we have to pay extra for the facility. It's the same excuse as Hospitals use, sensitive equipment, but some Hospitals are quite happy for mobiles to be used in the wards where most patients are anyway.
Is this to be another mode of transport where you cannot get away from the constant noise of mobile phones.
It's bad enough traveling by bus and train.
If airlines opt for this latest mode of communication, I hope the caller is asked to step outside before making there call.
This is just another money making idea, people see the cost on an air phone, but not on their mobiles...
If I want to spend £2 a minute, I'd use the air phone....
Having once spent several hours sitting next to a 'captain of the universe' blabbering on to his secretary/mistress on a flight, this is the last thing I want. I travel extensively and love the lack of contact onboard.
If the airlines are to introduce this, the only answer is to invest in a jammer to stop the darn things working.
Could we just have WiFi that would do me, phone I can do without, internet is harder.

With all due respect... you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
Cellphones DO work on airliners providing that you have a signal, which means you have to be near to an antenna. When you are flying over large cities like new york, you are almost certain to get a signal, regardless of speed.
Jet liners travel at what? 592 MPH? Mobile phone signals travel at 186287 miles per second.
You're argument doesnt really hold up does it?

With all due respect it would appear you are the one who does not have a clue.
Most cell towers are angles DOWN to provide a cone of coverage.
And the most important thing When flying at 500mph or whatever speed it is you are traversing cell towers at an incredible speed. The celluar network just cant cope with switching that quick yet.
Therefore there would have to be a pico cell in the aircraft with most probably a sat uplink
Please,please,please don't let this happen unless there is a sound-proof cubical that these people who can't stand being without a phone stuck to their ear for a few hours can be locked in. I travel to Portugal 5 or 6 times a year and it's a relief to have a couple of mobile free hours.Some people are on the phone whilst on the bus between the terminal and the plane.I think it must be a kind of addiction.
Ryan air annoys me, all they ever do is blast you with announcements. Add it to the fact you will get some loud mouth shouting down his phone, goodbye ryan air, i will travel by bus
