Unveiled at this week’s Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, the N810 Internet Tablet is being positioned by Nokia to usher in a "new phase in portable internet communication," and will allow users to make Internet calls, check their Google Mail or Facebook account, watch the latest YouTube video clips, or even update their personal blog via the Tablet’s slide-out keyboard and its "stunning" touch-sensitive screen.
The elegant and palm-friendly N810 also contains built-in maps and satellite GPS navigation, while also utilising Skype voice chat and Gizmo video chat (through its integrated VGA camera). Aesthetically, the Tablet delivers its content via a 4.13-inch wide screen colour display (at 800 x 480) to deliver "a magical experience right in the palm of your hand."
Powered by maemo Linux-based OS2008, the Nokia N810 features a highly customisable user interface and also packs in a Mozilla-based browser with Ajax and Adobe Flash 9, Bluetooth headset support and also enhanced video and audio features.
"The Nokia N810 packs the power of a traditional computer into a pocket-sized format. Its open standard technology accelerates the convergence of multiple functionalities and services into a single device," trumpeted Ari Virtanen, VP of Convergence Products and Multimedia at Nokia Corp. "Our new Nokia N810 offers users a true Web 2.0 experience in a compact, stylish, yet affordable package – it connects people to what matters to them."
The new Nokia N810 is expected to start shipping in the middle of November and hit retail with an estimated price of $479 USD.
