Nokia flexes its 8GB N95 muscle ahead of the iPhone

With Apple’s iconic touch-screen iPhone heading to European shores before the close of the year, Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia is this week applying extra oil to its considerable product muscle with the emergence of a new N95 smartphone boasting an iPhone-rivalling 8GB of onboard memory. Credit: Nokia.Described by Espoo-based Nokia as "the memory-packed big brother of the Nokia N95 multimedia computer," the 8GB model offers all the core and key components and features that have thus far established the N95 as a serious player in the smartphone arena.Specifically, the sleek black 8GB N95 includes a 5.0 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, built-in Assisted-GPS, WLAN, HSDPA, and a two-way slide. It also offers up a large 2.8-inch (240 x 320) QVGA display screen for clear and crisp viewing of media, videos, maps, games, and Internet browsing. Furthermore, the expanded 8GBs of memory also allow users to carry up to 6000 song tracks and up to 20 hours of video content."Our Nokia Nseries family has expanded with added pizzazz and performance with the Nokia N95 8GB, a device as personal as it is powerful," enthused Jonas Geust, VP of Multimedia at Nokia. "We've reached a pinnacle with the Nokia N95 and now with the addition of one of the largest ever displays, built-in Assisted-GPS and improved battery power, the Nokia N95 8GB takes entertainment enjoyment to another level."The 8GB Nokia N95 also supports download services such as the Nokia Music Store and N-Gage videogames so users can immerse themselves into a world of leisure, says Nokia. While the Nokia Music Store will provide easy access to millions of music tracks from the outset, the upcoming N-Gage gaming service, which goes live before the close of the year, will allow users to try videogames for free before deciding on a final purchase.In addition to the new memory-packed N95, Nokia has partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment to deliver the handset pre-loaded with hit movie Spider-Man 3 in Europe and across selected countries in both the Middle East and Africa. The 2007 summer blockbuster comes in ten different languages and subtitles options, while the handset also includes a unique Spider-Man 3 message tone, ring tone, wallpaper, and screen saver. Other Spider-Man 3 content, such as games, ring tones, and video clips will also be made available via the Download! Catalog (in selected territories).The new Nokia N95 8GB will retail for an estimated price of €560 Euro – not including taxes and carrier subsidies.
