While Seoul-based electronics giant Samsung has this week rolled out a solid trio of new music-focused mobile phone handsets, American manufacturer Motorola Inc. has entered the press release fray while whistling the tune to Irving Berlin’s 1946 classic "Anything you can do," with the unveiling of a massive nine (9) new phones.

First under the spotlight are no less than seven new entries to the company’s existing W Series of handsets, with the W156, W160, W175, W180, W206, W213, and W377 described as expanding its offerings for "everyday communication."
Positioned to deliver Motorola’s "high-tier style and innovation at an affordable price," each of Motorola’s new devices include "tools users need to stay connected" with the likes of an FM radio bundled on the W160, W180, W213 and W377. Further to that, CrystalTalk Technology is included on the W156, W160, W175, W180, W206, and W213 in order to automatically adjust audio to ensure crisp and clear calls "even in noisy environments."
"These devices are designed for consumers who are purchasing their first mobile phone, for those who simply want to talk and message on an easy-to-use phone, or for those who are looking to upgrade a basic phone," said Stu Reed, president of Motorola Mobile Devices. "These seven new additions to our W series exemplify Motorola’s commitment to providing innovative and exciting products to meet – and exceed – the demands of this diverse global audience."Motorola W377The W377 delivers excellent sound with an integrated FM radio and MP3 ringtones so users can personalise their mobile music experience. The handset also features an integrated VGA camera, Bluetooth wireless technology and popular preloaded games.The stylish W377 also packs in organisation tools, such as one-touch SMS, a speakerphone, a mobile calendar and an alarm clock, into its sleek and colourful flip-phone casing. Packed with 10MB of user memory, the W377 ensures users can always save what is most important to them. Motorola W206 and Motorola W213 Described as "stylish and affordable," the ultra-thin "candybar" design Motorola W206 and W213 keep users connected while standing out in a crowd. All the features necessary to stay connected, such as CrystalTalk Technology, prolonged battery operation, (up to) 500-entry phonebook, and SMS storage for up to 500 messages – are packed into the attractive and easy design. The handsets also include a large colour display, MP3 ringtones, pre-loaded games and WAP/GPRS to keep consumers entertained while on the move. The W213’s FM radio rounds out the entertainment experience.
Motorola W175 and Motorola W180 While the W180 delivers an FM radio, both the W175 and W180 come equipped with CrystalTalk Technology and are described as "a step above what is expected on a phone for everyday communication." Again arriving in a candybar aesthetic design, both handsets are optimised for business with a battery time that supports extensive call time and delivers one-key SMS access. Both phones are equipped with iTap predictive text and able to store up to 750 messages, while the internal phonebook can also hold up to 500 phone numbers. Motorola W156 and W160 Boasting "an intuitive user interface, large display and sleek keypad," Motorola claims the W156 and W160 are both extremely user friendly. The handsets feature all the tools consumers need to stay connected, including FM radio on the W160 and CrystalTalk Technology on both. Excellent operational longevity combines with 10 preloaded 32-channel polyphonic ringtones and 15 standard alert ringtones for an easy and ultra-thin experience across the board.
Motorola MOTO U9Not content with a mere 7 new additions to its W Series, Motorola is also unleashing the MOTO U9, which it labels as attending to the more "stylish side of music" via "unique advancements in mobile entertainment technology." Equipped with Stereo Bluetooth, CrystalTalk Technology, external touch-sensitive music controls, floating and animated screensavers and an elegant form factor, the MOTO U9 is set to arrive as "a multi-sensory experience."
The MOTO U9 offers up Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 and supports WMAv10 plus Janus DRM, MP3, AAC, AAC+, and AAC+ enhanced. USB 2.0 PC connectivity delivers quick and easy music download while the handset has (up to) 25MB of internal memory and provides support for an optional microsSD memory card and (up to) 4GB of extra memory for music, video, and images. Other features include a 2.0 megapixel camera with 8x zoom, multi-shot feature, and video capture. It also comes equipped with messaging capabilities such as MMS, SMS, WVIM, and Push Email.
Motorola RAZR2 V8 Luxury Edition
And finally… Motorola is pushing out its all-new RAZR2 handset, which will be available in limited quantities so that consumers can "celebrate the holiday season in style." Described as being "re-imagined and reconfigured" the RAZR2 is bathed in gold and clothed in a snake-like skin that hides a full suite of features and accessories for "conscious consumers seeking a glamorous design."
Boasting elegant 18K gold-plated accents, the RAZR2 comes with a luminous, black slate, vacuum metal finish, with a soft-touch backing that’s embossed with a "sensual snake skin texture." Beyond its ultra-slim design (12.05mm) an engraved diamond-cut pattern, linear etching, and CLI lens pin stripes, the quad-band RAZR2 has CrystalTalk Technology, a large colour display, touch-sensitive music controls, and picture caller ID.
The RAZR2 runs on the Opera Mobile Browser 8.5 for easy Internet access, and it also comes with a 2.0 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom and the capacity for up to 2 hours of video capture and playback. From a storage point of view, the RAZR2 delivers 2GB of internal memory (for up to 1,000 songs), and also offers up Windows Media Player 11, a black slate Motorola H680 Bluetooth headset (with 18K gold-plated accents). Users also get a wired stereo headset, a matching patent leather carrying case with mini strap, and a polishing cloth included in the box.
All of the above Motorola handsets will hit the market during the fourth quarter of 2007. Prices have not yet been divulged.
