With rumours shooting around the Net today that telecommunications giant Telefonica O2 is set to announce the securing of the UK-based iPhone this coming Tuesday, it’s also being reported that Deutsche Telekom will unveil a similar iPhone deal for Germany next week.
The Reuters news agency reports today that "an industry source" has revealed that T-Mobile, Deutsche Telekom’s mobile communications arm, has finally agreed a much talked about deal that will see the company announced as the iPhone’s exclusive carrier for the German territory.
Reuters’ source also ventures that the iPhone will be sold directly through Deutsche Telekom’s retail stores across Germany and will be priced at 399 Euros, the equivalent of around $555 USD. Again, much like the O2 deal for the UK, it is also believed that T-Mobile will deliver a set percentage of consumer usage revenue back to California-based computer specialist Apple Inc.
Initially available only in a limited amount of territories when it finally arrives in Europe, the diminutive touch-screen iPhone smartphone – which is buttons-free and comes complete with full Web browsing capabilities – is also believed to be assigned to France Telecom’s Orange in France. Expectation currently places the iPhone’s European release at some time before the end of the year.
With current speculation surrounding O2’s apparent securing of the iPhone in the UK pointing to an official confirmation arising tomorrow, Apple Inc. has announced that it is to hold an official news conference in London on September 25. However, the company has thus far not revealed any details as to its possible focus.
Despite the lack of confirmation, an Apple spokesman based in Germany has intimated that the press conference will entail the final official unveiling of the three exclusive carriers throughout Europe’s most influential territories.
