If this story is true, O2 has won in the UK, and it's future will dwarf all other cell phone carriers.
The iPhone is truly remarkable, and will become the primary cell phone used by everyone in the years, decades to come. Nokia is dead at this point with Apple's strong patents on the device, so there won't be any 'copycats' with this phone. Just 20% 'me too' products going forward.
I've used the iPhone for just 75 days and it's earth shattering, best cell phone or 'smartphone' I've ever used, BY FAR.
If a carrier loses the iPhone contract, consider them history. Nobody will want anything else once they use it.
Wow!

have you not used many ssmartphones then?
to consider every other network dead for not getting the iphone is a tad over the top.
fact is, many poeple wont fork out the money for iphone plus the additional for the contract over a 2 year period. people hate going into 18 month agreements never mind 24 months.
personaly i text a heck of a lot, the iphone is rubbish for this, ust check the stats. texting with the iphone is not as popular as with other handsets because the touch screen is useless for that.
ipod touch is the way forward at the moment and getting a decent handset at a much cheape rate.
o2 are going to lose so much money, they have to set up an edge complient network to get half even half crappy data speeds. mda vario 3 is soon out on t-mobile, in terms of a business phone, its a much better solution for me. it uses a hsdpa network of up to 3.6Mbs and this is getting faster.
in terms of data usuage the ipod touch can download music via wifi from itunes store, shame it has the nonsense drm.
iphone doesnt have this feature yet, and if it did, using edge if our not in a wifi area would be utter rubbish.
the iphone is going to have to go ibto the 3g market to ever become a viable option to myself, thats not going to happen with o2 for quite sometime,. o2 = no 3g coverage + high data charges.
at the moment then. looks like i will go for the cheaper and better in terms of quality of ipod touch plus a sony ericsson k850i or maybe mda vario III
