Samsung rolls out two more supposed ‘iPod killers’

As more and more new digital media players are released to the same old ‘iPod killer’ fanfare, one cast iron fact remains an undeniable constant throughout: the iPod is anything but dead. However, that said, Samsung is hoping to inflict a sizeable dent in the market dominance enjoyed by Apple’s iconic device with the introduction of the new YP-P2 and YP-P10 music players.While the product names are hardly catchy and consumer friendly, Samsung Electronics is pushing the arrival of its new dynamic MP3/WMA duo as a continuation of the company’s ethos in "launching first-class technology," which will see the YP-P2 and YP-T10 delivering "state-of-the-art sound and convenient connectivity" for their respective user bases.Both players come equipped wit Bluetooth 2.0 capabilities, which grants users with the enjoyment and advantage of listening to music or other audio content wirelessly via Bluetooth 2.0 headphones or through speakers. "Samsung Electronics is excited to unveil our next generation of MP3 players with Bluetooth that provides the ability to listen to your music with wireless headphones while also improving on the ability to take all your music, video, and photos with you anywhere." said Reid Sullivan, vice president of Digital Audio & Video Marketing at Samsung Electronics America.
Boasting attractively sleek and slim line form factors for easy carriage in the palm of the hand or in a pocket, both the YP-P2 and YP-T10 feature Samsung’s Digital Natural Sound engine (DNSe), which it claims will deliver "customisable high-quality acoustics" designed specifically to impress when heard through headphones. The upper tier YP-P2 player also features a wealth of other appealing functions beyond merely being a music player, these include the likes of an onboard FM radio, portable file storage, and voice recording. It also offers video and photographic capabilities via a 3.0-inch LCD screen that comes with a 16:9 screen ratio, 480 x 272 resolution, and a display rate of 30 frames per second (fps). Video files supported are WMV9 and MPEG4. The YP-P2 also arrives complete with a full touch-screen graphical user interface (GUI) for the utmost in simple but effective user control. Samsung points out that the GUI "reacts to the consumer’s [tactile] gestures using an input system" that has been built specially by the South Korean company to improve upon the mere physical tapping of commands.
Available in 4GB or 8GB NAND flash memory storage capacities, the new YP-P2 musters up to 35 hours of music playback, and up to 5 hours of movie playback on a single Internal Li-Poly battery charge.The slightly less ‘oomph-worth’ YP-T10 offers 4GB of memory, a 2.0-inch LCD screen (240 x 320), with up to 30 hours of music playback and up to 4 hours of movie playback. Both the Samsung YP-P2 and YP-T10 mobile digital media players will be available across North America from September of 2007.
