Enough already! It’s just a gadget. This is not news. Almost every electronic gadget that has ever come out has gone thru a hacking phase including the i-Pod but we don' hear about them every second of the day. “Seriously” can you people find something else to write about like Global Warming? It got less media coverage than this incredibly underwhelming 2G phone.
I just wonder what the other cell phone companies are going to do to gain back lost ground on AT&T. Of course, Apple has an exclusive two year contract with the company, but will the wait affect it that much? It's about like the RAZR though. When it first came out, it too had a 500 dollar price tag, and now it's free with a two-year contract from most wireless companies.
I found out yesterday that my wife is getting me one (an iPhone) for my b-day (yeah- I know, she's awesome!). We are Verizon customers largely due to AT&T's sucky customer service in the past. But being an Apple fanatic, I've gotta have one of these, and am willing to sacrifice customer service (cringe) for the phone and features. I truly wish the phone was hackable. If I could take mine to Verizon- I would in a second. So all of the 'hacking the iPhone' hipe is very reasonable to me. However, I do want a phone, not just a PDA, so the listed methods aren't of interest to me. Verizon's CEO recently said in an interview that he wasn't at all concerned about market share moving to AT&T (as he wiped the sweat from his brow). Dumb move. I would be concerned. He should be too. Verizon will take a hit from this- as will all the other carriers. But, as always in a free market, competition is good for the consumer. I will abandon my phone, porting my number to AT&T while getting a new number for my existing Verizon phone. Turns out we'll just keep both phones and downgrade our family plan and it's cheeper than paying the $175 contract termination fee. Of course, we wil have to pay for my service w/ AT&T, but oh well. At the epicenter of the debate, I am just reminded now of how much my wife rocks! Did I mention she bought me an iPhone?!?
Big deal, half mil phone sell,
I don't see anyone using it yet...most of them are getting hacked
or posted on ebay.
It's the phone of the moment and will disappear once the next new phone from other vendors come out.
599 for a phone or iPDA is not expensive and a PS3 is...talk about media bias.
I can just see a big class action lawsuit coming in 8-12 months, when the
morons that bought the iJUNK find out their thing no longer charges after
300 charges. That is worse than my 2nd 3rd gen ipod.
I guess Apple will not be as dumb as Microsoft to pay 1 billion dollar to get their xbox 360 back to fix them for free.....so guess what, you are on your own with a phone that would not charge or apple want to to pay more.....
4 days without a cell phone is not like 4 days without a ipod...
your boss can't find you, your wife can't find you...and you can't call when you wanted to. Yea, you can rent a phone from apple..but just wonder how many they have available when their millions of phones all fail after 300 charges.
Are they going to give you back your old phone after the battery change? or like the ipod, give you back someone else's junk with data wiped out?
Hey, now that's customer service.
Isn't it true that you can activate with AT&T, then simply cancel your plan within a couple days without any penalty (including any money to be refunded)? Seems a lot more straightforward to me.
Its not all that difficult to open ur iphone to use the ipod features and wi-fi browsing. I have been psting this all over, and the moderator takes it off!!! i was taken off even on DVD Jon's blog!!! It worked for me and if anyone cares, here goes:
I got the iphone, activated at&t and for had to terminate service for legitimate reasons. I was planning on returning the phone and pay the restocking fees. But surprise!! it stayed activated.. So i surfed, played songs, movies, sent and recieved emails etc. I even took the sim off and everything worked fine.i put in another SIM and no.. the phone did not work, but all the above functions worked!!! SO... amazing. I called apple and after many many attempts apple rep said he cnt answer my questions. so i hung up and decided to keep the phone. its great it still works.. and i have no contract to worry about.
and if u dont believe me, i have a simple suggestion. Power off your phone, take out the sim and power back again with the sim out. IT WILL WORK...
i am sending 2 to new zealand unlocked. they can have the iPhone = iPod on steroids - phone. Like they care.. hehehe
There's obviously too many under-socialized, dungeons and dragons playing geek heads in this country. It's a tiny little telephone! I'll 'unlock' it for you sweethearts. Where's my hammer?
I charged my iphone overnight. After 4 hours of use, while using the ipod, listening to music, the phone all of a sudden quit. I went to an apple store and after 4 hours, I have my iphone up and running again. It could be defective battery. Does anybody have similar problem?
lest see, 1 day after the i-phone launch at&t was sold out, so i ordered it online, it came 5 days later, i activated it and im up and running in 10-15 mins, its a great phone, the edge network works allright, no games on the phone though, and i dont see any you can buy yet, this is a great phone
Buy one in Europe without a contract and then it'll work with any service povider........ (ok, so it will cost more because the US$ is worth nothing right now!)
Why in the hell would you want an iphone if it is all locked up, costs an arm and a leg to use, and for which music is very expensive...
Let apple rot with their stinking phone...
Quote: 'under-socialized, dungeons and dragons playing geek heads' Get a life and go for a walk! It's better for you than you new toy.
This is important stuff. If Apple wasnt such idiots trying to help a crappy service provider, they would see that they could and would make so much more money by having this phone unlocked or making it easier to make it unlocked. Being on AT&T is a good step because they are a GSM network and if it gets unlocked, I can pop my simcard in from T-mo and use it.
