Vodafone Group Plc has revealed that, as of today, international laptop users are to receive a "competitively-priced alternative" to Wi-Fi called "Vodafone Connect Abroad". The world’s leading mobile telecommunications company has stated that from today it is to reduce the prices of its laptop-based data roaming services to €12 per day across Vodafone subsidiaries in Europe, Egypt, Australia, and New Zealand, along with partners located in France, Switzerland, Austria, and Belgium.
The Newbury-based telecommunications giant claims that its customer base will be able to "use their laptops when overseas to surf the internet, check emails and access their company intranet" whether they be relaxing in their hotel room, sipping hot coffee in a café, or soaking up the sun while reclining on the beach.
"The new tariff ensures the comfort of straightforward pricing combined with a familiar and reliable service," outlines Vodafone. "In countries where there is an HSDPA network, Vodafone Connect Abroad customers using a Vodafone Mobile Connect USB modem or a Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G broadband data card will be able to connect just as they do in their home country and benefit from download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps."
Further to that, Vodafone also points out that any one of its customer base utilising a wireless data product, a mobile handset as a modem, or has an embedded SIM card laptop, can sign on and tak advantage of Vodafone Connect Abroad – absolutely free of charge.
The new €12 fee (excl. VAT) will not come into effect until a customer opts to connect abroad for an agreed 24-hour session, during which time they can access the Net, check their e-mails, or log onto a business network as many times as they like. The access is unlimited throughout the 24-hour period across any Vodafone or partnering network.
"With Vodafone Connect Abroad, customers can now access internet services on their laptops for a simple, daily rate, competitive to hotel Wi-Fi and DSL services," commented Frank Rovenkamp, Global Chief Marketing Officer at Vodafone.
The €12 set price covers connection within either a 24-hour period or a single calendar day for the consumption of up to 50MB of data. After that amount has been surpassed, standard per-megabyte rates apply.
