Why is this 'news' all over the web today when the 3.0 GHz chips of the same type have been available in Macs for about a week now? Why does no article seem to mention that Macs had these chips *first*?

It amazes me how Mac people just believe what apple has told them, you guys defiantly think 'inside' the box. Do you know who makes the apple processors? Yeah, those quad ones..? It has Intel inside.

Yeah...XEONApr 9th, 2007 - 20:36:58

I don't think apple people can read, only watch cute colorful commercials telling them to buy things to be cool. This article is talking about Intel Core 2 Extreme and your mac quad is a Xeon. Which is why the article talked about 'Intel now has 12 quad-core models for servers, high-end PCs and mainstream desktops.'

It is a fact. Apple was the first to offer the new 3.0 server class Intel Xeon quad core processor last week. Intel today made the official announcement of quad core desktop processors for 'everybody else'. The fact is Apple's business model with Intel will give them a slight edge on the processor technology as it rolls out. It is a fact that a Apple Pro Mac quad core 8 processor machines will stomp on all quad core HP, Dell, IBM home and business desktops...because they are not xeons. The only significant and equitable comparisons are made with HP, Dell, IBM etc. servers. To compare apples with apples visit Intel.com to educate yourselves on the processor family. Furthermore, consider the OS. Windows will NEVER outperform OSX. Leopard will be the new standard... and them are the plain and simple facts. Btw: I have been a WinTel user for as long as Bill Gates has been writing code.

This is great! Next we need dual quad-core capable systems for truly hard-core gamers! Imagine the power you could get from 2 quad-core chips!

That's great, unfortunately no games take advantage of Dual core, let alone Quad core processors.

The point I was making is that there are about 50 articles about this topic on Google news right now, they all say that this is '... the fastest quad core chip...', and only *one* article out of all of them even mentions the fact that a *faster* quad core intel chip came out last week for the Mac Pro *first*

from that one article (C|Net):

> Intel took the wraps off a new quad-core chip Monday, launching the Core 2
> Exteme QX6800 processor at 2.93GHz.
>
> That makes it the fastest edition of a Core microprocessor that Intel has
> cranked out for the desktop market--not counting the 3GHz Xeon that Apple is
> using in its Mac Pro workstation.

'Extreme' or 'Xeon' makes little difference. It's just *not* the fastest quad core they make, and *not* news because the Mac Pro came out last week.

this is a very good thing because of the extra speed needed to perform the
calculations of the 'new wed'

this is news because it is a retail chip. not an entire workstation. only freaking mac idiot fanboys can make news about a new intel chip into a mac vs pc thing.

to the people that are using this crap to bring in the ol osx is faster then windows. give it a rest. the os is faster, the macs 3.0 is faster then 2.93...... people that are paying this much money for this chip will be overclocking it as well most of the time. it will go over 3ghz easy and will outpace the xeon at any benchmark you through at it.

its amazing to me, no intel vs amd wars, no native quad vs 2 duals on a die wars. freaking mac fanboys come out and its now a windows vs pc.

when the news came out last week about the 3.0ghz mac book pro it was all over google news as well. and all the tech sites

darkglass the point that it is an Intel, whether Intel gives the chips to Mac some months early doesn't mean anything to everyone else in the tech world. I don't care when dell or hp gets it, as I build mine like many out there. Mac people like to live in there world ignore obvious things like it is an Intel chip, which means EVERYONE will be able to use it and anyone can buy it. So it isn't a Mac chip or a Mac product, mac doesn't make processor, they make pretty cases that is it. Everything else in a mac comes from somewhere in the PC world. Sorry. Oh, they make a Mp3 player as well. Please don't get all crazy with this mac people, even thought you will. Spin all you want but you have a PC chip in your Mac. That is the truth nothing to say about that, the funny thing is before the intel you had an IBM chip in your Mac. That was really funny!

As ignorant as you people are im here to educate
first off mac pros have the octo core 3.0 ghz XEON proccesors not the core 2 extreme as being talked about in this article .Second yes there are some programs that do take advantage of the multi core proccesors a small number but yes some especialy on macs but in the future this is what will really matter and would make u happy if u were to buy one of the computers wiht these multi core proccesors . macs rule case and point.

i forgot to mention that you cant really compare the xeon with the core 2 extreme their diffrent chips the xeon is in the higher workstation class so even tho the ghz are almost the same the speeds wont be the xeon if clocked slower than the core 2 extreme would still be faster so now imagine it at 3.0 ghz and EIGHT cores . oh wait u can already get that on a mac pro wich is the only computer that comes with it at the moment no other manufacturer will have it on their systems for several more months about 4-6 months

Sometime these mac Heads are funny (I try to avoid words 'disgusting'), why on earth if mac buy intel processors, use them in their notebook, then it's a big news? why? tell me?? it's just an easy to add a new model with different processor, using maybe the same motherboard. Why on earth that should be a big news??
