i have both Firefox and IE6 on my portable. If I open Firefox, I get on with my work and browsing. If I open IE6 some spyware site tries to hijack my homepage and sell me something I don't need. Same computer, same virus and spyware software. I'll stick with Firefox, thank you very much.

Oh wow firefox saves your previously opened web pages now? Opera has only been doing that for what a year? I would rather stay with a browser that doesn't have security holes so it is Opera for me :D

Yes, Opera has had some of FireFox's new features for ages, but it doesn't make either any less. So its up to Opera to continue the lead and no sit around becoming stale and complaining that they were the first. I like Opera, its getting much better. Its CSS support is almost there, but still not quite up to scratch. I design and test my sites on all three, IE, FF and Opera. But FireFox is still my tool of choice because it is so customizable. It has some fatastic development tools I just can't live with out now. Web Developer Toolbar and FireBug.

The add-ons alone make Mozilla the browser of choice. I ditched IE long ago.

sometimes i think people don't get it.
the guys putting out
Opera and Firefox are not evil.
they are not out to get or destroy other choices.
They simply want to offer something they work hard on and in some cases offer it for free.
So there is nothing deliberately wrong with Firefox Opera or any others.
so some have features others don't ... big deal.
At least they are there and they are free.
This modern mentality of my choice is best and hate everything else is destroying our society.
Be glad for what you have and help those who don't
We should praise the efforts of Mozilla and the like for trying to provide what they can (for free). No one (or no product) is prefect and that especially applies to me.

What happened to the option of adding a mail shortcut to the tool bar?

It's funny how someone felt the need to create firefoxmyths.com... which is fairly misleading and certainly not entirely forthright. Some of its selective sources are amusing to me as well. Not surprising though, people have been letting MS think for them for a while, so why not let firefoxmyths.com think for them too? Ignorance is bliss. :)

I tried to download IE 7.0, on my XP system and I could not do it, as it said that they did not support Pack 1. What about using IE7 with 98, Me, or 95? FireFox rules give it your support.

As another user has stated, you can not use the new Internet Explorer 7 with Windows 98. Firefox 2 works just fine with Windows 98. That is one reason why I use it.
The main reason why some 'Microsoft people' out there do not like FireFox, is simply because FireFox is 'not made by Microsoft'. Silly, but true...

You see.. Microsoft starts to get scared when other companies are making great software for their operating systems.. that they did not make. I mean come on...
look at how Microsoft is dragging their feet with releasing their new Operating System 'Vista' security specs, to different security software makers, like Symantec and McAfee.
And.. also remember a few years ago when the DOJ finally got Microsoft to even 'have' the Windows user be able to have the choice, in what 'default' software that they could use in Windows?

Now when you combine the word 'free' and 'quality' together like FireFox, Microsoft starts to panic.. :-)

I can't believe the amount of rubbish people on both sides are coming out with. My opinion, There web browsers! There free, they work in different ways. Use which ever you want and shut up. Save the rest us from your childish playground 'mine is better than yours' drivel.

From a business standpoint, the browser is very important. During the netscape-IE wars in the late 90's, Microsoft was worried that once netscape won the browser world it would move to a desktop, threatening Microsoft's cash cow Windows. The same thing is happening today. Besides, competition is good for the consumer, everybody knows this!

I have used FireFox at my home for some time now... I could not do without tabbed browsing... granted, there are some things out there that FF can't read (the Windows Update website for example) but that was readily fixed with IE Tab.

At work, I use IE (simply because the IT guys have a standard setup that no one can deviate from). At work, it serves my purpose anyway, because all of the Intranet settings are set for IE (Firefox requires a proxy login for me at every turn).

Point: Different settings, different prefrences. Different strokes for different folks.

I use both. I *PREFER* FF, but I do use both. Competition drives the reins of innovation. Microsoft does it, Firefox does it better, Microsoft improves on it, Firefox innovates, and we end up with better products because both companies see the need to make theirs better. In the end, it will come to one of two conclusions: The death of one product that can't keep up, or a stalemate in which they live in harmony, having made all of the innovations they could.(well, as much harmony as they could).

By the way... the second one rarely happens (even Coke and Pepsi are not quite there yet).

Add another person to the list of those who are dismayed at the amount of energy spent on disliking consumer goods and extending that animosity to the people who use them. Some things are better (Italian shoes vs. made in China) but computers...??
I've barely used IE in 20 years except for web design checks and my favorite browser of all time was Netscape 4.7...something went amiss after that. Long ago there used to be a last updated date tacked onto the end of each hit, I don't think the text was black. For a researcher this was a great thing, after 4.7 it was gone. The bookmarks and how they worked were also fabulous, in entering links into a sql table via an online admin I could have the bookmarks remain open while the admin window was open and drag the urls between the open admin window, an open bookmarks window and the open (resized) web page whose url I was entering. I like Firefox now, haven't tried IE7 yet. I'll wait.
