New York - Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch plans to expand the popular MySpace networking site to China, the Financial Times reported Wednesday.
Murdoch said his wife, Wendy Deng, was in China working with executives of his News Corp media company to develop a Chinese version of the site, which allows people to share pictures, video and communicate with eachother through personal web pages.
News Corp bought MySpace last year in an attempt by chairman and chief executive Murdoch to expand his media empire into the digital sphere.
Murdoch said the Chinese version of MySpace would also have local partners, the Financial Times said citing a conference in New York on Tuesday.
The local partners - which could own up to 50 per cent - would help make the content suitable for a Chinese audience, Murdoch said, though it was unclear whether any particular aspects of the site might have to be curtailed due to government restrictions.
