Strokes guitarist hooks up with Spektor

Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi has collaborated with Regina Spektor on the singer’s new album Begin to Hope, due out June 12. Valensi contributed guitar parts to the song “Better,” which has been described as an “anthemic pop tune.”

“Did I know that I was going to have him (Valensi) play? No,” Spektor told Rolling Stone. “It was like, ‘Well, do we know any really cool guitarists?’ And then he came in.”

Spektor also enjoyed working with producer David Kahn, who along with the Strokes has worked with Paul McCartney and the Bangles.

“I was able to be more playful because it was such a no-pressure atmosphere,” she says. “It was just the two of us, me and David, and we were just working like on an art project. It was the first time when I really let go.”

Though Begin to Hope won’t be released until June, Spektor will hit the road next month for a 13-date club tour.
