Star Jones and Barbara Walters are at it again.
Barbara said she had to lie about Star’s gastric bypass every day on “The View.”
Star Jones told UsWeekly, “It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book. It speaks to her true character.”
Barbara Walters spoke before Star Jones came out today with harsh comments against the TV legend. Walters also spoke openly about the men in her life, her revealing memoir, good friend Katie Couric and even admitted to using Botox to Extra.
Jones apparently was outraged by Walters’ revelation in her new tell-all book, Audition, stating that the ladies on The View covered up Jones’ gastric bypass surgery. Walters told “Extra” that covering for Jones was wrong saying, “Doing that was a mistake. We all did, in a sense, lie for her. We didn’t want to out her. She was very adamant about not wanting to admit it. I think that did her harm.”
In “Extra’s” interview with Walters, she expressed compassion for Jones regarding her recent split with husband, Al Reynolds. Walters commented, “She went into that marriage with very high hopes and it is a difficult period for her. She asked that it be a private time and I respect that…I wish her well. I really do. I will never forget Star’s contribution to The View.”
Barbara’s rep responded to Star’s comment by saying, “I will not dignify this with a comment. Barbara’s written words say it all!”
In Walter’s memoir, she admitted to having an affair with married Senator Edward W. Brooke. She elaborated, “There were other men. There were three marriages, so Senator Brooke was a very small part…He’s not the guy that got away.”
As to whether she has regrets regarding writing the memoir, she said, “It may be too revealing, too personal. When I read it, I think, ‘Why did I say that?’ But I did and it’s out and it’s done.”
As for Walters’ good friend, Katie Couric, she commented, “I understand perhaps more than anyone what she’s going through, but Katie is so smart and so wonderful in television that she’ll be fine. Katie and I have talked to each other. She knows how I feel.”
When asked if Walters has done anything to stay young like using Botox, she responded, “Yes.”
