Zidane to break his silence on shameful World Cup exit

Paris - Zinedine Zidane was to break his silence later Wednesday and to comment on his infamous head-butting incident in Sunday's World Cup final which saw the French icon sent off. Zidane was due to speak on pay TV network Canal Plus at 1800 GMT. Playing his last match as a professional footballer, Zidane head- butted Italy defender Marco Materazzi in the chest during extra time of the World Cup final between France and Italy after the two appeared to have exchanged words. Italy won the Berlin match on penalties and Zidane has not commented on the incident so far. Materazzi admitted to having insulted Zidane, but said he was provoked by arrogant behaviour by the French playmaker. Materazzi denied reports that he called Zidane a 'terrorist' or insulted his mother. The world governing football body FIFA is also investigating the case. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
