German coach Klinsmann won't extend contract: reports

Hamburg - Juergen Klinsmann will not extend his contract as head coach of the German national team, newspapers Bild and Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported in their Wednesday editions. Current assistant trainer Joachim Loew will in all likelihood replace him as head coach, the papers reported, citing sources in the German Football Federation. Klinsmann led Germany to a third-place finish in the World Cup this month, after taking over the squad in July 2004. The papers said Klinsmann had already informed German Football Federation head Theo Zwanziger of his decision. Team captain Michael Ballack had also been informed by Klinsmann, sources told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. Coach Juergen Klinsmann is to receive Germany's Order of Merit, while the 23 players will get the highest award for athletes, the Silver Laurel, for their outstanding World Cup showing. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
