Paris - The contract of the coach of the French national football team, Raymond Domenech, has been renewed for an indeterminate time, the French Federation of Football (FFF) said Tuesday.
FFF president Jean-Pierre Escalettes said the body's federal council had voted unanimously to maintain the 54-year-old Domenech at the post after the coach had asked to continue in the function.
Domenech, who took the job in 2004, led France into the World Cup final in Germany which the team lost on penalties against Italy on Sunday in Berlin.
Details of the contract prolongation, such as its term, are to be decided at the next meeting of the FFF's federal council, in August, Escalettes said.
Domenech will be at the helm of the team when it begins its qualifying campaign for the 2008 European championships in September.
Until France's surprising march to the finals of the World Cup, Domenech's future with the team had been anything but certain.
French media questioned his training methods, coaching decisions and ability to communicate with media and his players, and speculated that his relationship with star Zinedine Zidane was anything but ideal.
Domenech will undertake the European campaign without Zidane and several other aging stars, such as Claude Makelele and Lilian Thuram, who have retired for good after returned to the national side at Domenech's request.
