Dry conditions expected in Berlin for World Cup final

Berlin - The World Cup final between France and Italy in Berlin's Olympic stadium Sunday will be played in dry conditions, meteorologists have predicted. There is less than a 20 per cent chance of rain, according to the Meteomedia and DWD weather services Saturday, while temperatures at kickoff time (1800 GMT) will be 24-25 centigrade. With a light breeze and some cloud cover also expected, the conditions should be perfect for football. World Cup organizers will be relieved to hear that there will be no repeat of Friday's storm in the German capital when torrential rain and strong winds forced the temporary evacuation of the media centre at the Olympic Stadium. An open-air concert to kickstart the four-year journey to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and a rehearsal for the tournament's closing ceremony also had to be called off. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
