Lilian Thuram is named Man of the match
Jul 5, 2006, 23:09 GMT
Munich - French defender Lilian Thuram was named FIFA Man of the Match in his side's 1-0 World Cup semi-final win over Portugal Wednesday, a victory that booked a final date against Italy.
'In a match where there was not a big figure, we choose the player who was most consistent throughout the 90 minutes,' said FIFA Technical Study Group member Francisco Maturana.
'There were some players who were great during 15-20 minute periods, but Thuram was brilliant during the entire match. The way he led the team and consolidated the French defence was outstanding in a French side that deserved to win.'
