Rooney feels he could have played for longer
Jun 20, 2006, 23:13 GMT
Cologne - Wayne Rooney said he could have played for longer Tuesday after he was substituted midway through the second half of England's 2-2 draw with Sweden.
The 20-year-old striker struck the dugout and flung his boots on the ground in frustration after coach Sven Goran Eriksson hauled him off after 68 minutes.
'Fitness was never a problem. I feel like I could have played longer,' said the Manchester United star. 'I'm just happy that we finished top of the group.'
Rooney felt England 'did well the first half but the tempo dropped off in the second half' and also admitted that the potential tournament-ending strike injury to partner Michael Owen was a blow.
'Michael is a very important player for us. He scores goals,' he said. Hopefully, his scan tomorrow is okay.
