Brazil shrug off criticism

Bergisch-Gladbach, Germany - Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva says everyone expects too much of Brazil but agrees the five- times world champions have yet to get into their stride. The South Americans have won their two opening World Cup group games to reach the last 16 but have struggled for rhythm. 'Everyone wants Brazil to score a lot of goals in every game. It's not as simple as that,' said Gilberto, who came on as a second-half substitute on Sunday. 'Brazil can never relax. If we relax we know what that means and although there is a lot of pressure we're used to it.' Brazil made hard work of wins over Croatia and Australia and coach Carlos Alberto Parreira admitted: 'When teams play us they play differently. They pack the midfield and it makes it hard for us.' And he points out their refusal to panic as proof of their ability. 'Some teams go crazy when they come up against such an approach but we didn't go crazy. We dealt with it.' Parreira also defended his striker Ronaldo. 'He is getting better with each game,' he said. 'You must remember before he joined the squad he hadn't played for two months.'
