Rooney to start against Sweden, says Eriksson
Jun 18, 2006, 17:18 GMT
Baden-Baden - Wayne Rooney will start for England against Sweden on Tuesday in Cologne, coach Sven-Goran Eriksson confirmed Sunday.
'The medical people say he can play more than 45 minutes so if that is the case then it is better he starts than he comes on,' Eriksson told ITV Sport.
The Manchester United striker came on as a second-half substitute in England's 2-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago on Thursday, his first competitive outing since breaking a bone in his right foot at the end of April.
'I'm very happy and he's very happy, and it's very good for England,' said Eriksson, who will likely drop Peter Crouch to the bench as the Liverpool striker has already picked up one yellow card and is one booking away from suspension.
England have already qualified for the knockout stages and need a draw against Sweden in their final group match to finish top of Group B.
