Match ban for English fan who displayed Nazi insignia

London - An English football supporter who had a Nazi swastika painted on his chest and SS insignia on his back during last Saturday's World Cup match against Paraguay was given a football banning order by a judge in Britain Tuesday. But the court in Leeds, northern Britain, refused to grant a similar order against a second supporter who had painted Nazi SS signs on his back, saying the photo evidence provided was not sufficient. Kristopher Dunn, 23, and Gordon Thomas, 21, both from Bolton, near Manchester, were arrested in Frankfurt after the England-Paraguay match. They were detained on their arrival back in Britain at Leeds airport late Monday. At Leeds Magistrates' Court Tuesday, Dunn agreed to a Banning Order against him, meaning he is now banned from all football games in England and Wales for 25 months. He is also banned from specified games abroad for the same period. But District Judge Martin Walker refused an application by the prosecution for a similar order against Thomas, saying there was not enough evidence on the grainy black and white photograph provided by German police. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
