Italy key defender Nesta will be facing Ghana
Jun 10, 2006, 17:45 GMT
Duisburg, Germany - Key defender Alessandro Nesta will be fit to face Ghana in Italy's World Cup opener on Monday, the squad's medical team announced Saturday.
Coach Mercello Lippi will be heaving a sigh of relief that the 30- year-old's nagging hamstring problem has been cleared up, enabling him to field a near-top side.
In defence he will be without just Gianlucca Zambrotta, labouring under a thigh strain, and midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, also with a thigh problem. Both were expected to be fit for encounter number two against the USA.
